Who or what inspires you?

Living in the city or town that I am working for is what pushes me forward! It is easy to find inspiration from an architecturally beautiful city like Chicago, but this has been true for me in previous jobs as well. I find myself proud of and tied to my work when I know how strategic decisions are made to make the experience of living where I do a little bit better. I also love reading PM magazine and always find a story that inspires!

What do you do in a nutshell?

The CFO's Team at the City of Chicago is tasked with issuing debt for the city and monitoring our credit profile. We are also focused on finding new ways to raise revenue for the City. This involves working collaboratively across departments.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter or to those already involved in public administration?

There are many paths into working in local government! If you do not have a professional degree yet - I would suggest looking into MPA programs. They are a great way to learn and build a professional network! You should also join ICMA's student chapter and apply for the Local Government Management Fellowship! The picture of me in this profile is from when I was a first year fellow and got the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic with ICMA's International Committee. It was one of the coolest experiences!

If this is not the path you would like to take, I would suggest applying for an entry level role with the budget office/finance team. Once you know how financial planning for your city is done, you can take that experience with you anywhere!

What is your favorite hobby? How did you get into this hobby?

I picked up a camera during the pandemic and started taking photography classes via zoom and eventually in-person. The hobby has stuck and I do find myself spending a ton of time walking around and taking pictures!

What favorite place have you traveled to or what is the next place on your travel bucket list?

I went to Mexico City a few years ago for a very quick trip! I want to go back for a longer period of time sometime soon!

Why did you join I-NAPA?

I joined I-NAPA to feel a sense of community with Asian (descent) administrators! In the places I have worked before my current organization, we were few and far between. It was so wonderful to know that there was a whole group dedicated to finding and maintaining this community.
